Giving Thanks...Peace IS an Option
Let There Be Peace On Earth
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be
With God as our Father
Brothers all are we
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me
— Jill Jackson Miller & Sy Miller (1955)
I was taught this song in the 1st grade and its lyrics have forever been treasured in my heart. If you consult with most of my peers and family members they would describe me as a peaceful person. This is because I have found through my life experiences, life is a lighter and effortless journey to travel while being peaceful. Living your life practicing peace is lifestyle that we can choose to live by.
We are in a season of trying and changing times everywhere. The media reminds us every day that our country is divided with hatred, bitterness, racism, uncertainty, hopelessness, high unemployment rates, bullying, foreclosures and homeless people. As we prepare for the holiday season and the New Year, let us pray and be an example for peace on earth.
Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace. Roman 14:19
This holiday season and beyond, make it a point to carry peace in your heart. In order to make a difference we must start within, and extend outward to others.
Some of us may say, what is peace? How is peace defined? The English translation for peace is:
A state of quiet or tranquility; freedom from disturbance or agitation; calm; repose
The Hebrew word for peace is Shalom, defined in the New King James version as:
Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity,
perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, and the absence of agitation or discord
So in essence, when you speak out the word SHALOM to your brother/ sister, you are not only proclaiming peace, but all the above meanings of the word over that person, that is a mighty blessing!
Take the responsibility and make the difference in your environment at home, school, the workplace, or any place you spend your time.
God has called us to peace. 1 Corinthians 7:15
A simple act of kindness, with a positive word and a smile goes along way. God intended for all of us to live a life of peace.
Shalom.
