Celebrations
Celebration — “the commemoration of or observance of a special time or event.” —Random House
Ask yourself this question — when was the last time you experienced a quiet celebration that was focused entirely on you? And by quiet I mean quiet, with just yourself and maybe one other person, taking the time to celebrate the good and important things that make up your life. And why is it common practice for most of us to celebrate only those occasions that are monumental and demand the attention of a large crowd? And what do you do if your life is one where everything is just average, do you not celebrate? Are celebrations only for those who can create a loud noise? And if so, what is that loud noise saying? Is it good and meaningful noise or just chatter?
Celebrating is about recognizing, through the benefit of quiet moments, that in spite of what the media and Hollywood wants you to believe, your life can be “simply” GOOD.
It does not require fanfare or a crowd, but rather only your focus or your attention on the little things to allow you to experience the impact and have it make a difference in the quality of your life.
It is after all the small, seemingly insignificant moments, that, over time, make up the sum total of a life that is meaningful and good.
You are a celebration! You may find it hard to believe, but the mere fact that you are “present” and breathing is cause enough to celebrate.
So the next time you feel bored or without significance, here is what I want you to do. Put on your favorite dance music, and turn it up real loud, and then I want you to dance. Dance until you feel the life that is yours rising up in you reminding you that like the melody of a chorus of birds singing to usher in a brand new day, your life is indeed a beautiful song.
In future issues, we will share ideas for creating special celebratory moments for you and your family. From family meals to outings for just you and a friend, our goal will be to help you to live a life that is a daily celebration.
We also invite you to share your special moments of celebrations to allow us to share them with other readers. After all, one person’s celebration is an opportunity to bring joy into the lives of others.
Until next time, give yourself permission to celebrate.
