Celebrations
Years ago one of my sisters and several of my nieces and nephews came to visit for Thanksgiving and for me, it was one of the best Thanksgivings I have ever had. Although the meal was great, it was not what makes me smile when I reflect on that day. It was instead a girl’s “night-in” spent doing facials and manicures and the laughter was unlike anything I had ever experienced at that time or have experienced again.
Two generations of women coming together, sharing stories of dating, fashion and why my sister and I are the worst dancers on the planet. We demonstrated dances from back in the day and that alone was enough entertainment for the occasion.
These are the moments of celebration that cost so little but can give so much. This year we are planning a rerun and I cannot wait to share especially since what were little girls at the time are now women who have children and I am sure the dynamics will be very different.
Since we are approaching the holidays where families everywhere will come together, this month’s celebration will focus on creating your own girl’s night-in spa at home. This can be as big or as small you care to make it and the only one requirement is that you bring your best attitude and your laughter.
Here are some tips to get you started, but remember, it’s your party and you can make it into anything you want it to be. And please, do share with us how you spent your celebration. We love hearing from you. We will also post some photos of our “girl’s night in” on our FB page; provided they will let me.
- Choose a home to host your evening and plan to stay up all night; so bring your pajamas.
- Select some old school music for the evening and mix it up with some hip-hop too
- Make your own homemade recipes for facials. Check the internet for recipes that use items from your cabinet.
- Include a “share your most embarrassing moment” as a part of the evening
- Choose a nail color that is different than anything you would normally wear and “rock it”
- Make it an evening free of television and turn off all cell phones.
- Have each person write on a slip of paper something awesome about a person in the room and then have everyone try to guess who that person is.
- Check online for great “tapas”, recipes to make and serve for your celebration. And be sure to choose a nice wine or non-alcoholic drink such as Fre’, or sparkling cider for your meal. Make a variety of at least 3.
- Take lots of photos and start a memory book
- Make this affair a new annual tradition
