Book Review: The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity: A Simple Guide to Unlimited Abundance
Book by Edwene Gaines
Money. Abundance. Prosperity. Budgets. Savings. 401 Ks.
When you read those words, what feelings come to mind?
How do you talk about money in your family? With your children? With your spouse?
There are few topics that stir up so much anxiety, stress, fear, longing and even shame and guilt than the topic of money. And there are few topics that cause such fights within families!
We want to be able to provide for our children — to offer them everything. Yet most of us are all-too-familiar with fears and worries of “not enough” when it comes to money. And, although we may provide materially for our children, we may also pass on confusing and painful messages to them as well.
We try to budget and save and we do the “right” thing by putting money in our retirement funds and college plans...but somehow the fear, the anxiety, the struggle may not go away. This is especially true with the economy the way it has been now for a while.
What if there was another way? And it didn’t require you to save a dollar more than you already do; or invest in a different stock? Or budget differently?
Well, according to Edwene Gaines, in her small-in-size but BIG-in-wisdom book, The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity: A Simple Guide to Unlimited Abundance, there is another way. And she should know. With barely a dollar to her name plus a child to clothe, house and feed, Ms. Gaines began to give away 10% of her small income. She began to tithe.
As a result of this courageous act, even at a time when she didn’t know how she would pay her bills or feed her daughter, what she began to experience was nothing short of miraculous! Her income began to shoot up, tripling in 6 months time, and today she lives a life of abundance and prosperity that she never believed was possible.
In her book, Edwene explains the importance of tithing, that “if you are too broke to tithe, you will probably always be broke”. She shares with us that as we give 10% of our income to people and places that inspire and “feed” us spiritually, we learn to trust that there is a higher power and we are not in this alone. As we begin to give, so we begin to receive. And as we begin to receive, our trust and faith open up.
She also shares 3 additional spiritual laws that she incorporated on her journey along with tithing. These include:1. Setting clear cut goals. 2. Forgiving yourself and everyone else for everything. 3. Finding your divine purpose.
Although these may sound like big acts and hard to implement, Ms. Gaines does a beautiful job of clearly explaining how to incorporate these acts into your life. I found her book hard to put down. It was inspiring, hopeful and written from such a loving and generous place.
If you have ever struggled with money and would like to explore a new way of experiencing abundance, this book is a must-read.
