Celebrations

Begin to Celebrate the Little Things

We are a society that loves parties...and the bigger the party the better! The problem with making a big production about every occasion is we run the risk of becoming jaded and very often miss the little jewels that present themselves to us each day. Each day that we are alive is reason enough to celebrate!

The joy of family and friends and the opportunity to share are occasions that we must all remember to acknowledge and treasure. This is the secret to good living!

And so this month, rather than passing along tips for creating a big fanfare, we will focus instead on slowing down and celebrating the simple, seemingly mundane occurrences that happen to each of us on a daily basis.

To get you in the right mindset, here a few things I would like for you to consider. And the rest is up to you. And remember, any true celebration begins with your decision that it is worthy of recognition.

  1. Find your favorite spot in your home and remind yourself of what it is about this room that warms your heart. Spend at least one hour a week in that space.
  2. Get up one half hour early each day for one week and have a nice cup of coffee or tea and listen to the peace and quiet of the space around you. Do not turn on any electronic device but rather enjoy the beauty of the silence around you. This alone will put you in a mindset of celebration.
  3. Write one sentence of affirmation to encourage yourself each day and remind yourself throughout the day of why you have reason to celebrate.
  4. At least once a week, set the table with your absolute best and invite your family and or a friend to dine with you. During your time together...have a conversation and laugh. The dinner does not have to be anything special. As a matter of fact, the more simple the meal, the better. Remember it is the moment and the people that are cause for celebration.
  5. Tell the people who are important to you that you celebrate their presence in your life and then show them in some small way.
  6. Until next time...CELEBRATE!
