Know Your Ingredients and Tools
Fall brings with it the desire for foods that are more substantial in both heartiness and flavor. And in order to get prepared for making those recipes, there are a few tools that are nice to have on hand. To keep down the cost of adding to your current supply of kitchen tools, be sure to check for specials on cookware and don’t forget to check outlets for great deals on anything from measuring cups to small appliances. Here are a few of my favorite and they are sure to make your time in the kitchen an enjoyable experience.
Cast Iron Skillet
Cast iron skillets are wonderful for searing and brasing meats and finishing off in the oven. They maintain a consistent temperature and the thickness of the skillet helps in preventing burning of your recipes.
Dutch Oven
Of any tool in the kitchen, this is perhaps my favorite. The versatility of cooking on either the stove top of in the oven, makes this one of the best investments you can make when allocating your budget for tools for the kitchen. Although they can be a little on the expensive side, it is well worth the investment.
Panini Maker
This is a great item to have in your line-up especially if you have kids. A panini can hide all kinds of nutritious vegetables and the time spent getting dinner on the table is cut substantially. Be sure to purchase one that has a large base as you can also use to grill vegetables.
Stock Pot
This is an absolute must! Homemade chicken, vegetable or beef stock are the key to making anything from the most delectable soups to the best steamed brown rice ever.
