Free to Choose
When you consider the power that lies in living abundantly each day, to escape from living is never an option. The mere suggestion of escape means that something is preventing you from the joy of being free.
When choosing the theme for this month’s issue, I thought about the many ways in which a person could be bound. What became very clear in my pondering is that most of us who feel the need to escape are not desiring to run away from a physical prison as much as we desire to be free from the emotional bondage that so many of us exist in each day.
So many of us live in mental bondage from not having control over what we eat, how we do or do not keep our bodies fit or from the lack of control over the emotional health that we each desire. And as much as we seem to be bound by the struggle of dealing with the challenges of life, we are reminded that we also have it within our power to break free.
As I approach the end of yet another summer, it occurred to me that more than anything else, I am in desperate need of an escape in order to become refreshed in preparation for the exciting journey that lies ahead. This desire has become somewhat urgent as I know that if I am to fully live in and embrace what I think is coming, mental fatigue will in no way serve me well.
And although a physical escape is not something I can afford to do at this time, a mental escape on the other hand, is something I cannot afford not to impart myself, if I am to show up whole in the days that lie ahead.
So, how do I plan to escape?
- Count my blessings each day.
- Take a mid-week movie night out.
- Take daily mini mental respites in the form of an afternoon siesta.
- Go to bed half an hour early.
- Institute Monday-me during month of August.
- Sleep in an extra hour on Saturday mornings.
- Read a romance novel.
Now, it’s your turn! How good is that...
