Respites
The Homestead
Okay, this is not the usual, but given the time of year I decided that we must do an encore for our featured respite suggestion from the last issue.
The Homestead, as your point of destination is a great way for a family to enjoy the beautiful mountain foliage that is absolutely spectacular this time of the year. And if that is not enough you can also load up the car with beautiful apples and pumpkins and other goodies that you will discover as you make your way to this special place.
And if you did not get a chance to visit this beautiful property yet, you can also think about making it a new Thanksgiving tradition for you and your family. Now is a great time to make your plans to spend Thanksgiving in the mountains. There are a great number of activities and special things to enjoy with your family and the good news is you get to let someone else do all the heavy lifting.
Whether planning a weekend getaway to enjoy the beautiful fall landscape, or a Thanksgiving family holiday to remember, The Homestead is your ultimate destination.
Here are a few things you might want to consider:
- Pack for fun. Overdressing is definitely not what you want to do. Be neat and comfortable in your attire, but leave the formal stuff for another occasion. Do, however, pack appropriately for dinner in the main dining room; jackets for men please, but for fun, pack to enjoy the great outdoors.
- Take along a good camera and remember your charger.
- Take along a picnic basket and have the on-site deli prepare things for your basket and take time out for a fall picnic. And remember to bring a nice blanket.
- Remember to bring warm jackets and sweaters as the temperatures are a bit cool, but still very comfortable.
- Check the website of The Homestead (www.thehomestead.com) for planned activities and events and be sure to sign up in advance.
- Plan to have afternoon tea with your children. This is a great way to have fun and to teach in a subtle way some good lessons in etiquette.
- If driving, plan to allow yourself plenty of time to explore some of the countryside; there is a lot to see.
- Also, be extra aware of deer and other animals crossing the roads, so drive carefully.
The Homestead; a great place to take a second wind! Breathe!
