Garden Plot
If you have been watering, weeding and working the soil in your garden plot your seedlings should now be nice sturdy vegetable plants; some of which are now beginning to get their first blossoms.
In order to prepare for a plentiful bounty, there are a couple of things you would want to do at this stage of the growing season to make sure you stay on track. So take note:
- Loosen soil with a hoe to create slight hills and remove weeds from around plants
- Remove weeds from other areas of the garden by pulling out by hand
- Feed with an organic mixture designed for the kinds of vegetables in your garden
- Dust around plants with ashes from fireplace; see note from last month’s issue
- Harvest lettuce leaves and spinach making sure to remove outer leaves, leaving those at the very top to allow for further producing
- Sow seeds for late warm weather vegetables; i.e. pumpkins, melons, etc.
- Water often
