Respites
Farm to Table Replenishment
I am one picky eater! Now that we have established that, let’s suffice it to say that I make it a priority to eat fresh, good and healthy food whenever I sit down for a meal. On an average I try to eat out at least once per week and although I have a couple of favorites, I try to check out new restaurants whenever possible.
This month’s Respites is a joy to write as it is not often that I happen upon a place where when I eat something, I don’t add my little two-cents to add to a recipe. You know the critic who always think they could have added a little more of this and a little less of that.
Founding Farmers is a wonderful concept of farm to table cuisine that exemplifies the true meaning of good and fresh. I first learned about this restaurant several months ago when invited to meet with a colleague, but as chance would have it the meeting had to be postponed and consequently we wound up dining elsewhere.
I will say that the timing for a summer visit was absolutely perfect. You see, I am a southern girl and although I do not indulge in fried foods very often, I do not pass up the opportunity to have a nice helping of good fried green tomatoes when in season. The optimum word here is “good”! Having grown up with some of the best cooks on the planet, I have to say that the fried green tomatoes I enjoyed during my recent visit to Founding Farmers was by far the absolute best I have ever tasted. They were encased in a succulent corn meal shell that was seasoned to perfection and the tomatoes inside were not mushy which ruins most attempts by well-intentioned chefs when making this dish.
As a main course, I chose the Shrimp Louie dinner salad which was also very scrumptious. The salad greens were reminiscent of the ones I pick fresh from my home garden with nice compliments of avocado, grape tomatoes and cucumber. The shrimp were generous in size and portion and bathed, ever so lightly in a nice thousand island dressing which set it off just right. What I especially liked was the salad greens were not drenched in salad dressing, but rather relied on the freshness of the salad itself to stand on its own.
I was dining with other family members that evening who also know and appreciate good food. Their selections ranged from sandwiches to the mac and cheese and they were very happy campers.
It goes without saying that Founding Farmers now joins my list of favs, so don’t be surprised if you see me tucked away with a nice helping of whatever is good on the menu at the time. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary in the category of good food and wonderful atmosphere, why not head on over to one of their locations.
