Holiday Pot Luck Supper
With everyone so tentative about the economy, nothing works like bringing together covered dishes of recipes prepared by guests to share in the joy of the season. Pot luck suppers are almost as old as Christmas itself and there is something wonderful about sharing in the tradition with food that has been created with all the love and attention from the people who will gather around the table.
The term “potluck” originated around the 16th century, when at that time, it was used to reference having to make eating accommodations for unexpected or uninvited guests.
Around the 19th century it evolved in meaning to refer to a type of communal eating. This type of gathering for a meal was usually celebrated with each person bringing a dish for all to share; hence there was always food enough for all.
As you gather with family and friends during this holiday season, why not consider hosting an elegant pot luck supper with all the trimmings. To get you started, here are a few ideas.
