4 Recipes for Good Living — From the Editor

Bringing the Harvest Home

This time of the year brings thoughts of gathering friends and family close as we prepare for the upcoming holiday season. When I think of what it means to harvest it conjures up thoughts of pulling close to you those people, places and things that bring you joy. I can usually be found nesting in my kitchen cooking up some of my favorite recipes or rearranging furniture in my favorite room only to put it back in the place that is comfortable and familiar to me.

There is something comforting about gathering or harvesting close to home. It is a ritual that nurtures those areas of your life that are somewhat scattered; bringing them into balance in a way that makes sense to you.

We live in a world that is fast-moving and changing in ways that encourages discarding what is of value, only to replace it with something that is not real. We miss what is very often right in front of us because we are no longer able to recognize that which we once knew so well.

The good news is today, unlike any time in recent history, people are searching for the familiar, for the real and what is ultimately true. They are harvesting at home and in places where they gather to worship, in celebrations with family and seeking out of old familiar friends.

Yes, things and time do change, but the basic elements that define who we are as human beings continue to remain the same. We scatter our energies to and fro as we venture to places unknown, but, when all is said and done our inner compass, the thing that rules where we long to gather and linger is directing us to that safe and familiar place we call home! How good is that...
